Argument Writing

Endangered Birds

I firmly believe that endangered birds should be kept in enclosures. Firstly if they are out in the wild their predators can kill them.  Secondly if they are in enclosures they will be looked after with care.  Finally if they are in enclosures with other birds like them, they can grow the population.

If endangered birds are out in the wild with other animals, there might be a lot of predators that would try to kill and that will make their species extinction faster. Some endangered birds might be native to New Zealand so we need to save them. If predators keep killing endangered birds there won’t be many birds left of it’s kind.

If endangered birds are in enclosure people will take care of the birds and help them. We will look after endangered birds with care. They will be safer in enclosures with us looking after them.

When there are birds of the same kind together they can grow the population by mating. Populations for endangered birds are slowly dying out and that’s why we need to put endangered birds in enclosures to help them survive. We should help grow the population not help kill the birds.

I firmly believe that endangered birds should be kept in enclosures because it will help save them if we are looking after them, It will be safer for them too. If they are in enclosure they can explore with other birds. We need to help the birds so they can get off the endangered list.

Room 20's Spelling Program

Room 20 has a spelling program that we have been doing for the whole year. We have been doing all of the 45 spelling patterns. You got to choose to do a hard copy spelling book or a digital spelling book. A hard copy is doing all of your spelling work in your spelling book and using scrap book things to make it look good. A digital spelling book is doing all of your spelling work on your Chromebook and using the internet to find what you want. I choose to do a digital spelling book if you want to look at my digital spelling book click HERE.

Narrative Writing

The Magic War

Mal and Evie are 16 year old villains. They live on an island called The Island Of The Lost. It has no way off the island once you're on it but the king has a magical button that can allow people off the island. All of the villains are on the island. Everything was fine until Mal and Evie get chosen to go to a different school in New Zealand a pretty, happy and very big island.

Mal and Evie finally arrive in New Zealand. The Fairy God Mother showed them around but she is not being nice to Mal and Evie. Mal and Evie find their room, it is pretty and pink, they don't like it. Mal and Evie started goodness class. The Fairy God Mother is being really hard on Mal and Evie they are starting to get suspicious. The Fairy God Mother doesn't like Mal and Evie

The Fairy Godmother secretly starts using her magic wand on Mal and Evie “bibbity bobbety boo!” Mal and Evie don’t like what the Fairy God Mother is doing to them, so Mal secretly opens her mums spell book that she gave to her and Evie secretly gets out her mums magic mirror that she gave to her and they both cast a spell on the Fairy God Mother. Mal and Evie don’t know that the Fairy God Mother was a witch that turned good so if water gets on her she disintegrated. Mal and Evie covered the Fairy God Mother in water and she disintegrated into thin air.

Everybody in the school agreed that Mal and Evie should have to get sent back to The Island Of the Lost and never seen in the school or New Zealand again. Mal and Evie finally arrive back at home and they go back to doing their normal evil things again. Mal and Evie lived happily evil after.

We have a lot of Technology in this class, we have a TV, a projector, four computers, a radio station and a Chromebook for each person.  It is so much fun in Miss Woulfe's class because there is a lot of new opportunities that I have not done before.

Term 2 Showcase

On June 29 2015  was syndicate 4's showcase. Rooms 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22 did their own projects and writing  for the showcase, in my class the theme was The Solar System. Preparing for the showcase was a bit tough but we got through it. My project was shared with Alex and Kathrin. here is a picture of our project.

We also had to do an explanation for the showcase and here is mine.

Why Do The 8 Planets Orbit The Sun?

Why doesn't Earth and the other planets bump into each other in space? What makes all the planets orbit the Sun?

A very long time ago when the sun was young it had a rotating disk made of dust and gas. As the years went by the dust and gas from the sun’s disk ended up forming the 8 planets in our solar system. The planets inherited their motion from the sun’s rotating disk. While the planets were being formed they were also circling the Sun, like racecars on a track.

The gravity in the Sun’s atmosphere is what pulls the planets to orbit the sun in the same clockwise direction 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. All of the planets have this invisible path to follow.

Each planet takes a varying length of time to orbit the Sun.  Planets further from the Sun than Earth take longer to orbit the Sun.  Planets closer to the Sun than Earth orbit the Sun quicker. Earth takes 365 days to orbit the sun, that is how we get our year.

The sun is in the centre of our solar system.  Earth is the only planet with life, because of our perfect conditions. If Earth was any closer to the Sun water would evaporate, if Earth was any further away from the Sun, the water would freeze so Earth is in the perfecter place in the solar system.

Explanation Writing

In my class we're learning to write the structure of an explanation. We did our first explanation on the Aurora Australis which means the southern lights. Here is my published Explanation.

The Aurora Australis

Have you ever witnessed nature’s light show dancing across the night sky? This colourful display is often referred to, and known as ‘The Southern Lights’. What causes this spectacular illumination, Aurora Australis?

The Aurora Australis starts all the way up in space at the sun, the sun is always active and it ejects a cloud called a solar flare which is filled with ions, electrons and atoms.  The sun has several solar flares a day.

Then, the solar flare heads towards Earth. The particles in the solar flare are dangerous to humans but there is something that saves us, it’s in Earth's atmosphere. it’s Earth’s magnetic field. It acts as a invisible shield. The magnetic field saves us from the dangerous particles. The solar flare follows the shape of the magnetic field and it directs the ions to the North and South Poles. That is when they pick up speed, on it’s way to the North and South Poles. The particles in the solar flare collide with all of the other particles.

After that, the solar flare releases energy in the form of light. The different ions make the different colours of Aurora, green is the most common colour. You will be able to see Aurora on a cold, dark winter night if you are close to the polar regions.  Aurora is also in the North Hemisphere it is called Aurora Borealis but the Southern Light is much bigger and brighter than the Northern Lights because more ions go down to the South pole.
